Promo Code Attribution Calculator

Promo code redemptions are a floor, not the full picture of what a creator drove. Enter code orders, reach and cost per creator to get conversion per creator and an estimate of the halo sales codes miss.

Your campaign

The numbers below are illustrative starting assumptions, not benchmarks. Replace every one. The result is saved in the URL.

Drives the halo estimate: estimated orders = code orders / this share. 50% is a placeholder, not a measured figure. 100% means no halo.

Revenue is orders x average order value, a simplification: it ignores returns, shipping and margin. "Revenue per 1 spent" divides revenue by what the gift cost you.

Why codes under-count

A code only records a sale when a buyer remembers it, has it handy and types it at checkout. Several things break that chain:

  • Link click, no code. The buyer follows the creator's link but checks out without typing anything.
  • Delayed purchase. They see the post, then search your brand name days later, and the sale shows as organic or direct.
  • Different device. They watch on a phone and buy on a laptop, so a tracked link loses them.
  • No discount wanted. Some buyers skip the code field entirely, or auto-applied offers override it.

Codes can also over-count when a creator's code leaks to a coupon site and strangers use it. Tag the links you hand creators with the influencer UTM builder so you have a second signal next to the code, and ask buyers "How did you hear about us?" after purchase to sanity-check your code-usage share. Generate one code per creator with the bulk discount code generator, and log results in the influencer tracking spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is promo code tracking?

Exact for the orders that use the code, but only a floor for a creator's total impact. Buyers who click a link and never type the code, or buy later after searching your brand, do not show up. Codes can also overcount when they leak to coupon sites. Treat the count as a minimum.

What is the halo effect in influencer marketing?

Halo sales are orders a creator influenced that no code or link captured, such as someone who saw a post and later searched your brand name and bought. You cannot count them directly, which is why this calculator estimates them from an assumption you set and can change.

What should I enter for the share of orders that use the code?

It is your estimate of what fraction of a creator's orders come through with the code. There is no standard figure, so the 50% default is only a placeholder. Better inputs come from a post-purchase survey asking how buyers found you, compared with the code orders you recorded.

Is estimated halo revenue safe to report to my boss?

Report code-attributed revenue as the confirmed number and the halo as a labelled estimate with the assumption stated beside it. Mixing them into one figure without saying so invites distrust, because the halo depends entirely on the code-usage share you chose.

Methodology

Orders per 1,000 reach = code orders / reach x 1,000. Click to order = code orders / link clicks (blank when clicks is 0). Estimated orders = code orders / (code-usage share). Estimated halo = estimated orders - code orders. Revenue = orders x average order value. The code-usage share is your own assumption and the only source of the halo number: this tool has no measured halo data and cites no industry benchmark.
