Hashtag limits by platform

Platforms change these rules. Where we could not confirm a number on an official page, the table says so. For gifted posts, also read our influencer disclosure rules guide.

Frequently asked questions

How many hashtags should I use?

Fewer, more relevant tags are the safer approach. Instagram's limit has been widely reported as 5 per post since December 2025, though its own documentation has not been consistent, so check in the app. YouTube shows up to three above a video title. Our defaults are editable assumptions, not rules.

Do hashtags actually increase reach?

We do not have data that proves it, and we will not invent any. Hashtags mainly tell a platform and viewers what a post is about. Treat them as labels, not a growth hack, and compare posts with different sets in your own analytics before you decide what works for your account.

Why don't you show how popular each hashtag is?

Because we do not have verified, current volume figures, and made-up numbers would mislead you. The sets here are hand-written by us and ordered by how closely they match a niche. Before using a tag, search it in the app to see what the posts under it actually look like.

Which hashtags should I use on gifted posts?

Tags like #gifted or #ad are common, but a hashtag alone may not make the relationship clear. In the US, the FTC says influencers who receive free products should disclose that clearly in the endorsement itself, in plain words. Rules differ by country. This is not legal advice.

Can I use the same hashtags on every post?

You can, but repeating one identical block makes posts look templated, and it stops you learning what each tag does. Keep one or two branded tags constant and rotate the rest to fit each post's subject. The generator's tiers make that swap easy.

Methodology and sources

Last updated: October 29, 2026

We wrote twenty niche sets by hand. Each has three tiers (broad, niche, community) with six tags apiece, ordered by how closely the tag matches that niche. The generator splits your chosen set size across tiers at about 20% broad, 50% niche and 30% community (at least one niche tag), and takes tags from the top of each tier. Output lists specific tags first and broad tags last.

  • No volume, reach or growth numbers appear anywhere. We have no verified current data, so we show none.
  • The default set sizes (5, 4 and 3) are editable assumptions, not platform rules.
  • Topic and brand tags are pattern-based (your word plus "tips" or "community"). We cannot confirm that those tags exist or are active. Search them in the app first.
  • Hashtags change meaning and get restricted over time. Check any tag in the app before you use it.
