Where these numbers come from

We don't invent benchmarks. The sponsored-rate ranges are dated and linked below. Where our source doesn't give a number, like Reel or Story rates for micro and mid-tier accounts, we leave the field blank instead of guessing a multiplier.

Affiliate commission is a different kind of number: it's set per retailer, not published as one platform-wide rate the way TikTok Shop publishes a US average. The 10%–25% default here is the commonly-cited range for LTK, per Make Influence, “Creator commerce apps (LTK and ShopMy) vs. traditional affiliate networks”, accessed 26 Oct 2026 (source). Treat it as a planning number, not a quote, and swap in the real rate from your own affiliate dashboard.

Two ways to make money on Instagram

Sponsored content is a flat fee from a brand, agreed before you post, for a feed post, Reel or Story (or a bundle of them). Affiliate income is a commission on sales made through your link, paid by the brand or retailer whose product sold, and it scales with how many people actually buy, not with your follower count. A lot of creators run both at once: a brand pays a fee for the post and also gives an affiliate link or discount code for ongoing commission after it goes up.

How we estimate your sponsored rate

Your follower count picks a tier, and the tier maps to a published rate range for the format you pick. We use Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 Instagram rate guide, which gives separate Reel and Story numbers only for nano, macro and mega accounts. For micro and mid-tier, it says Reels price above the feed number and Stories below it, without a separate figure, so the calculator shows the feed range and says so rather than inventing a multiplier.

None of this uses your engagement rate or niche. We don't have a sourced way to turn either into a price adjustment (see our engagement rate guide for why we don't publish a benchmark), so treat the range here as a starting point for negotiation. A smaller account with strong, real engagement routinely out-earns a bigger one with a quiet audience, the rate range just can't show you that part.

Getting the affiliate estimate right

The formula is clicks times your conversion rate times average order value times commission rate. Commission is the only piece with any kind of external benchmark, and even that varies by retailer and category rather than following one platform rate. Conversion rate and order value are yours to set: pull them from your LTK, ShopMy, or Instagram Shop click and sales data once you have any, rather than trusting the placeholder numbers here past your first real week of data.

If you got a gifted product instead of a fee

A brand sending free product instead of cash is a different trade, not automatically a worse one, as long as the product's retail value lines up with what a paid post of the same size would cost. See how brands are told to handle a creator's rate ask and gifted post value vs. cash rate for that side of it.

Questions about making money on Instagram

How much do Instagram influencers make per post?

Per Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 rate guide, a nano account (under 10K followers) runs about $10 to $50 for a feed post, a micro account (10K-100K) about $150 to $500, a mid-tier account (100K-500K) about $500 to $5,000, and macro/mega accounts run from $5,000 into six figures. Reels and Stories have their own, usually higher and lower, ranges where the source publishes them.

Do Reels pay more than feed posts?

Where the source gives a separate number, yes. Nano Reels run about $20 to $100 versus $10 to $50 for a feed post, and macro/mega Reels run meaningfully above the feed rate too. For micro and mid-tier accounts, the source says Reels price above the feed number but doesn't give a separate figure, so this calculator leaves that cell blank instead of guessing a multiplier.

How much do Instagram Stories pay?

Where published: about $5 to $25 per frame for a nano account, and $2,500 to $8,000+ for a short campaign (a run of frames) at macro and mega tiers. No figure is published for micro or mid-tier Stories.

What does engagement rate have to do with my rate?

It's real leverage in a negotiation, a high rate for your size is a strong talking point, but we don't fold it into the number on this page. We don't publish a “good engagement rate” benchmark (see our engagement rate calculator), so there's no sourced formula for turning engagement into a price multiplier. Your rate here comes from follower tier alone.

How much can I make from affiliate links on Instagram?

It depends on your reach, how many of those people buy, the order value, and the commission the retailer sets. Commission is set per retailer, not by a platform-wide rate: LTK and ShopMy commissions commonly run 10% to 25-30% depending on the brand and category. Use the calculator's affiliate section with your own numbers once you have any real data.

Is a sponsored post or affiliate marketing more lucrative on Instagram?

A sponsored post pays a fixed fee regardless of how the post performs. Affiliate income is unlimited in theory but entirely dependent on your audience actually buying, and most creators see conversion rates in the low single digits. Many creators run both: a flat fee for the post, plus an affiliate link or code for ongoing commission.

Does follower count or engagement matter more for brand deals?

Brands increasingly weight engagement and niche fit over raw follower count, but we don't have a sourced formula linking the two to a dollar figure, so this calculator sticks to the published, follower-tier-based rate ranges. A smaller, more engaged account is often a stronger pitch than the number alone shows.

Is my data saved or sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Seed or anyone else, and there's no email gate.

Brand reached out with a gift instead of cash?

Seed is how brands send that gift: a real $0 Shopify draft order, not a discount code. If you've gotten a Seed link before, this is the app behind it.
