Influencer Tiers Explained

Most sources call 1,000 to 10,000 followers nano and 10,000 to 100,000 micro, but the edges vary: Heepsy ends micro at 50,000, and Seed's CPM guide starts macro at 500,000. Enter a count to see where it lands under each.

Calculator

Enter a follower count. You get the tier under three published definitions side by side, because the labels disagree at the edges, plus Seed's working CPM ranges for that tier.

Creator

You can type 25k or 1.2m. No country input: see the methodology for why.

Recalculates as you type. Nothing here is sent anywhere.

Heepsy 5-tierMicro
Seed CPM guideMicro
Instagram CPM (Seed working range)$15 to $35
TikTok CPM (Seed working range)$5 to $20

All three definitions agree for this count. CPM is the price per 1,000 views, so multiply by the creator's views, not followers.

The same five labels, with the follower edges each source gives. Gaps show where a source does not use that tier. Where one scheme says micro and another says mid-tier, the account is the same; only the label moved.

  • Heepsy 5-tier: Heepsy's influencer tiers post, which attributes the chart to Shopify. Undated.
  • Seed CPM guide: The Instagram tiers in Seed's CPM guide, which this site's rate calculator also uses. Macro includes mega.

Best tier for gifting

A gift costs what the product costs you, landed at their door, whatever the creator's audience. A paid post costs views divided by 1,000 times a CPM. So the question is how many views a post needs before gifting is the cheaper way to get it. Enter your landed cost and read across.

$20 is a placeholder. Use your own number.

Views at which a paid post costs the same as gifting the product
TierInstagram CPMBreak-even views
Nano$10 to $201,000 to 2,000
Micro$15 to $35571 to 1,333
Mid-tier$25 to $60333 to 800
Macro and mega$40 to $150+133 to 500

Read it this way: if a nano creator's post would get more views than the break-even range, gifting beat paying for it on cost alone. Gifting does not guarantee a post, so multiply by your post rate before you trust it; the gifting ROI calculator does that. Seed's guide to finding micro-influencers notes that below about 50,000 followers it is common to send product without a guaranteed post, and larger accounts are more likely to quote a fee.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers is a micro influencer?

Most sources say 10,000 to 100,000 followers. Sprout Social, Loop.fans and Influentials all use that band. Heepsy's chart narrows micro to 10,000 to 50,000 and calls 50,000 to 500,000 mid-tier. So an account with 60,000 followers is micro under one definition and mid-tier under another. Say which definition you mean in briefs.

What is a nano influencer?

A nano influencer is the smallest commonly named tier, usually 1,000 to 10,000 followers. Sprout Social, Heepsy, Influentials and Loop.fans agree on that range, though Slice defines nano more loosely as under 10,000. Brands often use nano creators for gifting because the cost is the product, not a cash fee.

Which influencer tier is best for product gifting?

There is no single answer, but the arithmetic favours smaller tiers. A gift costs your landed product cost whatever the audience size, while a paid post costs views times a CPM. Seed's guide notes that below roughly 50,000 followers it is common to send product without a guaranteed post. Test across tiers and track post rate.

Why do sources define the tiers differently?

There is no standards body for influencer tiers. Each agency, platform and software vendor picks its own follower cut-offs, and several treat them as conventions rather than rules. The edges that move most are where micro ends (50,000 or 100,000) and where macro starts (100,000 or 500,000), so always check which scale a rate card uses.

Do influencer tiers change by country or platform?

This classifier does not adjust for either. We found no published country-specific tier thresholds we could cite, so the same follower edges apply everywhere. A follower count also means different things on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, so use the tier as a rough label and judge a creator on engagement and audience fit.

Methodology and sources

Last updated: October 29, 2026

The classifier compares your follower count with the edges in each scheme: an account belongs to a tier when its count is at or above the tier's lower edge and below the next tier's. Counts under 1,000 are shown as below nano. CPM ranges come from the Seed tiers (nano 1K to 10K, micro 10K to 100K, mid-tier 100K to 500K, macro 500K+). Break-even views = landed cost / CPM x 1,000.

There is no standards body for tiers, so these are conventions. We did not add a country input because we found no published country-specific thresholds to cite; rates and CPMs vary by market, so replace our ranges with your own quotes. Not a ranking of creator quality.
